Product Overview

The Hikvision DS-7608NXI-K2/8P/VPro is an 8-channel VPro Network Video Recorder designed for advanced Hikvision IP CCTV systems. It combines eight built-in Power over Ethernet camera interfaces with AcuSense analytics, AcuSearch and AcuSeek intelligent search functions, facial-recognition capabilities, 4K HDMI output and dual hard-drive support.

The recorder accepts up to eight IP camera channels and provides eight dedicated PoE ports for convenient plug-and-play installation with compatible network cameras. The PoE interfaces can carry network data and electrical power over the same Ethernet cable, reducing the need for separate camera power supplies.

As part of Hikvision's VPro range, the recorder adds advanced AI-assisted search and event-analysis functions intended to reduce the time required to locate relevant surveillance footage.

Eight IP Camera Channels with Built-In PoE

The recorder supports up to eight IP camera inputs. Eight integrated RJ45 PoE interfaces allow compatible cameras to connect directly to the NVR, simplifying camera installation and network configuration.

The camera-side PoE ports operate at 10/100Mbps and support IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at equipment. Hikvision specifies a maximum combined PoE power budget of 80W.

The 80W figure is the total available PoE budget rather than 80W for every individual camera. Installers should calculate the combined power requirements of all connected cameras, particularly when using PTZ, heated or high-power models.

80Mbps Incoming and 160Mbps Outgoing Bandwidth

The DS-7608NXI-K2/8P/VPro supports up to 80Mbps incoming bandwidth from connected cameras and up to 160Mbps outgoing bandwidth.

Camera resolution alone does not determine bandwidth usage. Frame rate, codec, image complexity, bit rate and the number of active streams also affect the total data rate. The combined camera configuration should therefore remain within the recorder's supported incoming-bandwidth limit.

AcuSeek Intelligent Video Search

AcuSeek is designed to make recorded-video investigation faster by allowing operators to search for relevant targets instead of manually reviewing long periods of footage.

For this model, Hikvision specifies AcuSeek across all channels when compatible Hikvision AcuSense cameras support and have enabled the required AcuSearch function. Under those conditions, the recorder can model up to 50,000 targets per day.

The manufacturer's current specification lists English as the AcuSeek search language. AcuSeek capability therefore depends on compatible cameras, firmware and the correct feature configuration and should not be advertised as universally available with every IP camera.

AcuSearch and AcuSense Analytics

AcuSearch works with compatible Hikvision cameras to help locate recorded people and vehicles more efficiently. The current technical table specifies camera-side AcuSearch across all channels where the camera itself has the AcuSearch function enabled.

AcuSense technology can distinguish human and vehicle targets for supported event types, helping reduce unnecessary alarms generated by unrelated movement.

The NVR also supports Motion Detection 2.0. NVR-side Motion Detection 2.0 can analyse all channels up to 4MP, or up to 8MP when the specified enhanced SVC mode is enabled, for human and vehicle recognition.

Perimeter Protection

NVR-side perimeter protection provides human and vehicle analysis designed to reduce false alarms. Hikvision specifies up to two channels when analysing camera streams up to 4MP, or one channel for streams from 5MP to 8MP.

Camera-side perimeter analytics can be supported across all channels where the connected cameras provide the required functionality.

This distinction is important: analytics processed directly by the NVR have defined processing limits, while analytics provided by compatible smart cameras can have different channel availability.

Facial Recognition and Face Libraries

The recorder supports face-picture comparison, face capture and face-picture search functions within compatible configurations.

Hikvision specifies up to 16 face-picture libraries containing up to 50,000 face images in total. Individual images are limited to 1MB, with a total face-library capacity of up to 800MB.

Face-picture comparison is supported across up to eight channels. NVR-side facial detection and analytics performance is specified at up to two channels for images up to 4MP or one channel for 5MP to 8MP video.

Facial-recognition functionality should only be deployed where its use is lawful and appropriate, with suitable privacy, retention and access controls.

12MP Recording and High Decoding Performance

The NVR supports recording resolutions including 12MP, 8MP, 6MP, 5MP, 4MP, 3MP, 1080p and lower resolutions.

Hikvision's latest June 2026 English datasheet lists decoding capability of up to four channels at 12MP, six channels at 8MP, twelve channels at 4MP or twenty-four channels at 1080p under the applicable decoding conditions.

These figures describe decoding processing capability and do not increase the recorder's physical camera capacity. The DS-7608NXI-K2/8P/VPro remains an eight-channel NVR and accepts a maximum of eight IP camera inputs.

The detailed specification also states 12 channels of 1080p decoding at 30fps with AI enabled and 24 channels of 1080p decoding at 30fps with AI disabled, demonstrating that active AI processing can affect available decoding resources.

4K HDMI and Independent Monitor Outputs

The HDMI output supports resolutions up to 3840 × 2160 at 30Hz. It also supports 2560 × 1440 at 60Hz and selected Full HD and lower monitor resolutions.

The VGA output supports up to 1920 × 1080 at 60Hz. Hikvision specifies independent HDMI and VGA output operation, providing additional flexibility for suitable monitoring configurations.

A 4K HDMI output should not be confused with 4K at 60Hz; this model's maximum listed 3840 × 2160 HDMI refresh rate is 30Hz.

Dual SATA Storage with Up to 16TB per Drive

Two SATA interfaces are provided for surveillance hard drives. Hikvision specifies support for up to 16TB capacity per HDD.

The recorder does not automatically include hard drives. HDD capacity should only be stated as included when the exact retail package has been supplied with installed drives.

Actual recording duration depends on camera count, resolution, frame rate, codec, bit rate, scene activity and recording schedule. Maximum drive capacity should therefore not be presented as a guaranteed number of recording days.

Network, Audio and Alarm Connectivity

The main LAN connection is a self-adaptive 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet interface. This is separate from the eight 10/100Mbps camera-side PoE interfaces.

The recorder supports one RCA audio input for two-way audio and one RCA audio output. It also supports four IP speaker input channels within compatible network-audio installations.

Four alarm inputs and one alarm output are provided for integration with suitable external alarm equipment. One USB 2.0 interface is located on the front panel and another USB 2.0 interface is provided at the rear.

Power, Dimensions and Operating Environment

The recorder requires 48V DC at 2.5A. Hikvision specifies recorder consumption of no more than 15W without installed hard drives, excluding the separate power consumed by connected PoE cameras.

The chassis measures approximately 384 × 317 × 52mm and weighs no more than 3kg without HDDs.

The supported operating-temperature range is -10°C to 55°C with relative humidity from 10% to 90%.

Choosing the Correct VPro NVR

The DS-7608NXI-K2/8P/VPro is well suited to systems requiring up to eight IP cameras, integrated PoE, dual-HDD storage and Hikvision's newer VPro intelligent-search functions.

Before ordering, confirm camera compatibility for AcuSeek and AcuSearch, total camera bandwidth, combined PoE power consumption, required hard-drive capacity and the AI functions that need to operate simultaneously.

Choose a different recorder if the installation requires more than eight camera inputs, a PoE budget above 80W, more than two HDD bays or greater incoming recording bandwidth.
