The Hikvision DS-2TD2117-6/V1 is a thermal network bullet camera designed for perimeter security, temperature-anomaly monitoring and early fire-warning applications. It uses a Vanadium Oxide uncooled focal-plane thermal sensor to detect differences in emitted thermal energy rather than relying on visible light.

This makes the camera useful in environments where conventional visible-light cameras may struggle, including complete darkness, changing lighting conditions, visually complex backgrounds and outdoor perimeter applications.

The camera uses a 160 × 120 thermal detector with a 17μm pixel interval and provides a 25° × 18.7° thermal field of view. Deep-learning video analytics support line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting detection, while additional thermal functions include temperature-exception monitoring and dynamic fire-point detection.

This is a thermal-only camera. It does not contain a separate visible-light optical camera and should not be described as a bi-spectrum, ColorVu or conventional infrared CCTV camera.

160 × 120 Thermal Imaging Sensor

The DS-2TD2117-6/V1 uses a Vanadium Oxide uncooled focal-plane array with a native thermal resolution of 160 × 120 pixels. Hikvision specifies a 17μm pixel interval and an operating response waveband from 8μm to 14μm.

The thermal detector has a NETD rating of less than 40mK at 25°C with an F1.1 aperture. Lower NETD values indicate an ability to distinguish relatively small temperature differences within a scene.

It is important to distinguish the sensor resolution from the transmitted output image. Hikvision specifies the thermal detector itself at 160 × 120 while the output image can be presented at 320 × 240. The camera should therefore not be advertised as having a native 320 × 240 thermal sensor.

Thermal Vision Without Visible Light

A thermal camera detects emitted infrared thermal energy rather than normal visible light. This allows the DS-2TD2117-6/V1 to detect thermal contrast in darkness without requiring conventional visible-light illumination.

It should not be confused with an infrared night-vision CCTV camera. Conventional IR cameras illuminate a scene using near-infrared LEDs and then create a reflected-light image. A thermal camera instead measures differences in thermal radiation.

No conventional IR illumination distance, white-light illumination or ColorVu night-vision specification applies to this model.

6mm Thermal Lens and Field of View

The camera belongs to Hikvision's 6mm thermal-lens configuration and provides a manufacturer-specified field of view of approximately 25° horizontally by 18.7° vertically.

This relatively focused thermal view makes the camera more suitable for perimeter and defined-area monitoring than for very wide close-range scene coverage.

The minimum focusing distance is approximately 0.6 metres and the thermal aperture is F1.1.

The lens is fixed. It does not provide motorised optical zoom or PTZ movement, so the camera's viewing direction and monitoring area must be selected during installation.

Deep-Learning Perimeter Protection

The DS-2TD2117-6/V1 provides four thermal video-content-analysis rule types: line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting detection.

Up to eight VCA rules can be configured. These functions allow the thermal image to be used for automatic monitoring of defined boundaries and areas rather than relying only on continuous manual observation.

Performance depends on target size, camera position, environment, temperature contrast and the final configuration. Smart detection should not be treated as a guarantee that every person, vehicle or event will always be detected.

Temperature-Exception Monitoring

The camera supports three temperature-measurement rule types with up to 21 configured rules, consisting of up to ten points, ten regions and one line.

Hikvision specifies a temperature-measurement range from -20°C to 150°C with a stated accuracy of approximately ±8°C.

This specification makes the camera suitable for security-oriented thermal anomaly and fire-prevention applications where unusual temperature changes are important.

It should not be marketed as a precision industrial thermometer, medical fever-screening device or high-accuracy body-temperature camera. The ±8°C manufacturer specification is substantially wider than the accuracy required for those applications.

Dynamic Fire-Point Detection

An advanced fire-detection algorithm can monitor the thermal image for abnormal high-temperature areas. Hikvision specifies dynamic detection of up to ten fire points.

This can provide an additional early-warning layer in applications such as storage areas, industrial sites, construction locations, equipment areas and perimeter environments.

Fire-point detection is an electronic surveillance aid. It should not be presented as a replacement for certified fire-alarm, smoke-detection or life-safety equipment where such equipment is required.

Thermal Image Processing

Hikvision provides thermal image-processing functions including Adaptive AGC, Digital Detail Enhancement and 3D Digital Noise Reduction.

Up to 15 adjustable thermal colour palettes are supported. Different palettes can help operators interpret temperature differences and scene details according to the application.

Thermal palettes are visual representations of measured thermal information and should not be confused with conventional visible-light colour video.

Network Video and Compression

The camera supports three thermal video streams at up to 25 frames per second. Hikvision specifies the 160 × 120 thermal sensor with a 320 × 240 output image.

Supported video compression includes H.265 and H.264, together with MJPEG on applicable streams and Hikvision H.265+ and H.264+ encoding support.

A self-adaptive 10/100Mbps RJ45 Ethernet interface provides network connectivity for compatible recorders, software and surveillance infrastructure.

Local Recording and Network Storage

A built-in microSD card slot supports compatible microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC cards with capacities up to 256GB.

The camera does not contain 256GB of built-in storage. A memory card must be supplied separately unless your retail package specifically includes one.

Compatible network storage and system recording may also be used depending on the final surveillance platform and configuration.

External Audio and Alarm Integration

The camera provides external audio input and audio output interfaces for compatible equipment. It does not list a built-in microphone or built-in speaker.

Two alarm inputs and two configurable relay alarm outputs are provided, allowing the camera to interact with compatible external security equipment and alarm systems.

An analogue BNC video output is also listed for compatible service or monitoring requirements.

These interfaces should not be confused with integrated two-way audio. External audio equipment is required where audio functionality is needed.

PoE and Outdoor Installation

The DS-2TD2117-6/V1 can be powered by 12V DC or PoE according to Hikvision's published specification. Maximum rated power consumption is approximately 8W.

The camera carries an IP66 environmental protection rating for outdoor installation and is specified for operating temperatures from -40°C to 65°C with humidity of 90% or less.

Hikvision also lists TVS 6000V lightning protection together with surge and voltage-transient protection.

These protections do not make the camera immune to direct lightning strikes or incorrect installation. Suitable grounding, surge protection, weather sealing and cable installation remain important.

Important Application Information

The DS-2TD2117-6/V1 is intended for thermal security monitoring, perimeter protection, abnormal-temperature monitoring and fire-prevention applications.

It is not a medical thermography camera and should not be used or advertised as a fever-screening or precision human body-temperature device. Hikvision specifies temperature accuracy of approximately ±8°C for this model.

The camera is also thermal-only. Customers requiring a conventional visible-light CCTV image, thermal-visible fusion or a bi-spectrum camera should select an appropriate Hikvision thermal and optical model instead.
