The Hikvision DS-2CD2543G2-IWS is a compact 4MP AcuSense fixed mini dome network camera designed for residential, retail and commercial CCTV installations. It combines high-resolution 2688 × 1520 video with Hikvision AcuSense human and vehicle classification, a built-in microphone, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connectivity, infrared night illumination up to 30 metres and 120dB Wide Dynamic Range.

The IWS version provides greater connectivity than the standard I model. The W designation adds Wi-Fi connectivity, while the S designation adds external audio and alarm interfaces. This means the DS-2CD2543G2-IWS combines wired Ethernet and PoE with wireless networking, a built-in microphone, external audio input and output, and one alarm input and output.

Its compact mini dome design, IP67 weather protection and IK08 impact resistance make it suitable for discreet CCTV monitoring around homes, shops, offices, entrances, reception areas and other indoor or outdoor security locations.

4MP High-Resolution CCTV Imaging

The DS-2CD2543G2-IWS uses a 1/3-inch progressive scan CMOS sensor and provides a maximum resolution of 2688 × 1520, delivering detailed 4MP surveillance footage.

For UK 50Hz operation, the main stream supports up to 25 frames per second at 2688 × 1520, 1920 × 1080 and 1280 × 720.

A separate sub-stream supports up to 25fps at resolutions including 1280 × 720, while a third video stream is available under supported configuration settings.

Fixed Lens Options

The DS-2CD2543G2-IWS family is available with 2mm, 2.8mm and 4mm fixed focal lens options. The exact lens supplied depends on the complete manufacturer part number of the camera being purchased.

The 2mm version provides the widest view at approximately 128° horizontally, 75° vertically and 147° diagonally. This option is suited to installations requiring very broad scene coverage at relatively short distances.

The 2.8mm version provides approximately 104.3° horizontal, 55.9° vertical and 123.8° diagonal coverage, making it a versatile choice for entrances, rooms, driveways and general CCTV surveillance.

The 4mm version narrows the view to approximately 83.7° horizontally, 43° vertically and 100.3° diagonally, providing greater subject size within the image for more focused monitoring.

The lens is fixed rather than motorised. Focal length cannot be remotely changed after installation, so the correct lens version should be selected for the required field of view.

DORI Planning Guidance

Hikvision provides different DORI planning distances according to the selected lens.

The 2mm version is rated at approximately 45m detection, 18m observation, 9m recognition and 4m identification. The 2.8mm version provides approximately 64m detection, 25m observation, 13m recognition and 6m identification. The 4mm version provides approximately 85m detection, 34m observation, 17m recognition and 9m identification.

DORI figures are theoretical pixel-density planning references. They are not guaranteed facial, evidential or number-plate identification distances because actual results depend on lighting, target movement, camera angle, weather and installation conditions.

AcuSense Human and Vehicle Classification

Hikvision AcuSense uses deep-learning algorithms to classify supported targets as people or vehicles. This helps the camera concentrate on security-relevant movement and can reduce unnecessary alerts generated by unrelated activity.

Motion detection supports human and vehicle target classification. Deep-learning perimeter protection is also available for supported line crossing and intrusion detection events.

Correct camera positioning and event configuration remain important for achieving useful smart-detection performance.

Face Detection

The camera supports face detection as one of its smart event functions.

Face detection should not be described as facial identity recognition. It can detect the presence of a face in suitable conditions but does not independently identify a named individual.

Built-In Microphone

A built-in microphone allows the DS-2CD2543G2-IWS to capture audio together with compatible video recording.

This can be useful in entrances, retail environments, reception spaces and other suitable locations where audio recording is permitted and required.

Local laws and privacy requirements should always be considered before enabling audio recording.

External Audio Input and Output

Because this is the IWS version, the camera additionally provides one external line-level audio input and one line-level audio output.

This allows compatible external audio equipment to be integrated where required.

Although the camera has a built-in microphone, it does not have a built-in loudspeaker. Any audio-output or two-way-audio installation therefore requires suitable compatible external equipment.

Alarm Input and Output

The IWS version provides one alarm input and one alarm output, allowing compatible external sensors, alarms or other devices to be integrated with the camera.

The alarm output is manufacturer-rated at a maximum of 12V DC and 20mA. External equipment must therefore be selected and wired according to the electrical limitations of the interface.

2.4GHz Wi-Fi Connectivity

The W designation means the DS-2CD2543G2-IWS includes Wi-Fi connectivity. It supports the 2.4GHz frequency range from 2.4GHz to 2.4835GHz using IEEE 802.11b/g/n wireless networking.

Hikvision specifies transfer rates of up to 11Mbps using 802.11b, 54Mbps using 802.11g and up to 300Mbps using supported 802.11n operation.

The manufacturer lists a wireless range of up to 80 metres, but explicitly notes that performance varies according to the actual environment. Walls, interference, building materials, antenna positioning and local wireless conditions can significantly reduce usable range.

This model should not be advertised as supporting 5GHz Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi 6.

Wired Ethernet and PoE

The camera also provides a self-adaptive 10/100Mbps RJ45 Ethernet interface, allowing it to operate as a conventional wired IP CCTV camera.

IEEE 802.3af Class 3 Power over Ethernet is supported, allowing network data and electrical power to be delivered through one suitable Ethernet cable when connected to compatible PoE equipment.

The IWS version has a maximum manufacturer-rated consumption of approximately 6W using 12V DC or approximately 7W when powered through PoE.

Up to 30m Infrared Night Vision

Built-in infrared illumination provides a manufacturer-rated night-vision distance of up to 30 metres using 850nm IR light.

Smart Supplement Light helps regulate infrared illumination according to the scene and can reduce excessive exposure when objects move close to the camera.

The 30m specification describes rated infrared illumination coverage rather than guaranteed facial or number-plate identification at 30 metres.

120dB Wide Dynamic Range

120dB WDR helps the camera retain useful image detail in scenes containing both bright and dark areas.

This is particularly useful around entrances, windows, doors and other locations where bright daylight behind a subject can otherwise produce difficult exposure conditions.

Additional image enhancement includes Backlight Compensation, Highlight Compensation and 3D Digital Noise Reduction.

H.265+ Efficient Compression

H.265+ video compression helps reduce storage and network-bandwidth requirements compared with less efficient recording configurations.

The main stream supports H.265, H.264, H.265+ and H.264+. Supported sub-stream formats include H.265, H.264 and MJPEG.

microSD Storage up to 512GB

The DS-2CD2543G2-IWS includes an onboard memory-card slot supporting compatible microSD cards with capacities up to 512GB.

The 512GB figure describes maximum supported card capacity. It does not mean that 512GB of memory is built into the camera or that a memory card is supplied.

NAS storage through NFS or SMB/CIFS is also supported, together with Automatic Network Replenishment in compatible Hikvision recording configurations.

NVR and ONVIF Compatibility

The camera can be used with a suitably specified Hikvision NVR for centralised recording and playback.

Open Network Video Interface Profiles S and G are supported together with Hikvision ISAPI and SDK integration, providing interoperability with compatible third-party recording and video-management platforms.

Compatibility should always be checked against the exact NVR or VMS, firmware, camera resolution and required smart features.

IP67 and IK08 Compact Housing

The DS-2CD2543G2-IWS carries an IP67 environmental protection rating and an IK08 impact-resistance rating.

The camera base is aluminium while the cover is plastic. Its compact mini dome housing measures approximately Ø110 × 57.4mm and weighs approximately 380g.

The manufacturer lists packaged weight at approximately 615g.

Operating and storage conditions are specified from -30°C to 60°C with humidity of 95% or less under non-condensing conditions.
