Detailed 8MP 4K Video

The DS-2CD2385G1-I provides a maximum resolution of 3840 × 2160, commonly described as 8MP or 4K UHD. This higher pixel count provides greater recorded detail than standard 1080p video and is well suited to installations where detailed playback is important.

At the full 3840 × 2160 resolution, Hikvision specifies a maximum frame rate of 20 frames per second. In UK 50Hz mode, lower resolutions including 3072 × 1728, 2560 × 1440, 1920 × 1080 and 1280 × 720 can operate at up to 25fps.

The 20fps limit at full 4K resolution is important. This camera should not be advertised as providing 25fps or 30fps at 3840 × 2160.

Separate main, sub and third video streams allow the system to use different resolutions for recording, remote viewing and other network applications.

Powered-by-DarkFighter Low-Light Imaging

Powered-by-DarkFighter technology is designed to improve image quality where ambient lighting is limited. Hikvision specifies colour minimum illumination of 0.008 lux at F1.2 or 0.014 lux at F1.6 with automatic gain control enabled.

The actual fixed lenses used with the camera are specified with an F1.6 aperture. When the available visible light becomes insufficient, the camera can switch to infrared-assisted black-and-white monitoring through its mechanical IR-cut filter.

This model should not be confused with a ColorVu camera. DarkFighter improves low-light performance, but the camera uses infrared for monitoring in darkness rather than providing permanent full-colour images with visible white-light illumination.

Choose the Right Fixed Lens

The DS-2CD2385G1-I is available with three fixed focal lengths, and each lens provides a different field of view.

The 2.8mm version provides the widest view, with approximately 110.7° horizontal, 59.1° vertical and 131° diagonal coverage. This makes it suitable for entrances, driveways, rooms and areas where broad scene coverage is the priority.

The 4mm version provides approximately 87.1° horizontal, 47.4° vertical and 101.8° diagonal coverage. It offers a more focused view while still covering a substantial area.

The 6mm version provides approximately 50.8° horizontal, 27.6° vertical and 60° diagonal coverage. It is suited to locations where a narrower view is preferred.

All three options use fixed lenses. They do not provide motorised zoom or remotely adjustable focal length. The correct lens should therefore be selected before installation.

30 Metre Infrared Night Vision

Built-in 850nm infrared illumination provides a manufacturer-rated range of up to 30 metres, allowing the camera to continue monitoring after visible light becomes insufficient.

The stated 30-metre figure describes the rated infrared illumination range rather than a guaranteed identification distance. Actual usable detail depends on lens choice, mounting position, scene reflectivity, weather, surrounding lighting and target size.

The camera supports automatic, scheduled, day and night switching, allowing the imaging mode to be configured according to the installation.

120dB True Wide Dynamic Range

The camera includes 120dB true Wide Dynamic Range for scenes containing very bright and dark areas at the same time.

This can improve visibility around entrances, windows, reception areas and vehicle approaches where strong backlighting may otherwise make subjects difficult to see.

Additional image-processing functions include Backlight Compensation, Highlight Compensation and 3D Digital Noise Reduction. Brightness, contrast, saturation and sharpness can also be adjusted through supported Hikvision software or the camera interface.

Smart Event Detection

The DS-2CD2385G1-I supports several intelligent event functions, including line crossing detection, intrusion detection, unattended baggage detection and object removal detection.

Face detection and scene change detection are also supported, together with standard motion detection, video-tampering alarms and system exception events.

This is a G1-generation camera and should not be advertised as an AcuSense model. Hikvision does not list human and vehicle target classification for this camera.

Face detection should also not be confused with facial recognition. The camera can detect the presence of a face, but it should not be advertised as identifying a person's identity.

H.265+ Compression and Recording

The main stream supports H.265 and H.264 encoding, together with Hikvision H.265+ and H.264+ compression technologies. H.265+ can help reduce storage and network-bandwidth requirements when compared with less efficient recording configurations.

Video bit rate is configurable from 32Kbps to 16Mbps, allowing recording quality and storage requirements to be balanced according to the installation.

A built-in microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC card slot supports compatible memory cards up to 128GB. The camera does not contain 128GB of built-in storage, and a memory card is not included unless specifically stated as part of your sales package.

Network storage using compatible NAS equipment is also supported, together with Automatic Network Replenishment for suitable Hikvision recording configurations.

Network Compatibility and PoE

The camera provides one self-adaptive 10/100Mbps RJ45 Ethernet connection and supports Hikvision clients including Hik-Connect, iVMS-4200 and HikCentral.

ONVIF Profiles S, G and T are supported together with ISAPI and the Hikvision SDK. These interfaces can assist integration with compatible third-party network video systems.

Third-party compatibility should not be treated as a guarantee that every smart event, recording or configuration function will work through every NVR or video-management platform.

Power can be supplied through a suitable 12V DC source or IEEE 802.3af PoE Class 3. Maximum rated consumption is 7.5W with 12V DC and 9W when using PoE.

Full-Metal IP67 Turret Housing

The DS-2CD2385G1-I uses a full-metal camera body and carries an IP67 rating for resistance to dust and water when correctly installed.

The turret design allows manual positioning through 0° to 360° pan, 0° to 75° tilt and 0° to 360° rotation. These adjustments are performed during installation and should not be confused with powered PTZ movement.

The specified operating range is -30°C to 60°C with relative humidity of 95% or less under non-condensing conditions.

The camera measures approximately 138.3mm in diameter by 125mm high and weighs approximately 725g. Hikvision lists the packaged weight at approximately 966g.
